Days of Sadat

One of Ahmed Zaky`s best films ever. Days of Sadat, is a film that covers about 30 years of the life of Anwar El Sadat, from the pre-revolutionary era when the late president was part of the British resistance, to his assassination in 1981. Though the movie shows some of the man's private moments, including a peculiar romantic scene where the young Anwar and his future wife, Jihan, see a fortuneteller, however, its main focus is on many of the political events that shaped the country at that time.

Ahmed Zaky excelled himself in featuring the role of this fervent nationalist starting from his beginnings as an unemployed man living under Imbaba Bridge, going through his love story with the 16- year-old Jihan El-Sadat, whom he later married, then his crucial part in the 1952 Revolution, his speech to the Israeli Knesset, and his bloody assassination 19 years ago. Every stage of his growth until he reached the pinnacle with his appointment to office is made extraordinary with the efforts of the crew working on such a great production. The film shows how great this man is and how he had learned the lesson of bitter defeat in 1967 and launched a surprise attack against Israeli forces in 1973. When he emerged victorious, he traveled to Jerusalem in November 1977, not knowing that the trip would cost him his life. Two years later, a peace treaty signed at Camp David, Maryland, it was the last nail in his coffin. But for this daring gesture, Sadat was awarded the Nobel peace prize.
